Ka Papa Loi'o Kanewai
2016.05.09
HIBISCUS参加学生からService Learningの授業レポートが届きました。
今回は、タロイモの生産場を訪れ加工や調理を体験するなど、ハワイの食文化について学んだようです。
I joined the volunteer at the loi this time. I knew what you do because I had checked it in a class. It is different to do by each team and I peeled the taro potato. I knew about taro and ate taro. But I saw taro itself for the first time.
I have 2 things surprising. First, size is small. There was some big one but almost all are small . And there were many shapes. It is easy to peel big one but it is difficult to peel small one. I thought it is tough but the fact is that it is soft.
Secondly, I was surprised by the color. I thought taro is purple because taro bread is bright purple. But the fact is that color is light purple.
I was able to see making the poi. It is soft at the start but you soak water and smash it and it became like a rice cake. I ate poi for the first time. I thought the taste is lighter than I thought. It was good that I only was able to do this experience in Hawaii in this way.
