Along with advanced teaching conditions, Yasuda Women's University also offers excellent conditions to conduct scientific research. I had the opportunity to conclude a large number of publications since my arrival and I have other projects under development with colleagues from different countries. Less than two years after starting my work at YWU, I have 10 publications covering different aspects of tourism and sustainable development. For me, research is not only about publishing results: it is also about following the most recent advances in knowledge. These new ideas are beneficial for students when applied in classroom.

First, I concluded a project about sustainable development and economic specialization in tourism. I published two articles as a single author, one of them in Annals of Tourism Research, one of the leading global journals in tourism. I also concluded a project about common resources and wellness Tourism, financed by a grant from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). The last publication was about destination management and it involved colleagues from Japan and The Netherlands.

Meanwhile, I started another project financed by JSPS. This one is about the participation of local communities in tourism planning and management. A first work was conducted in Barcelona, involving researchers from Spain and The Netherlands. The second one was developed in India, in collaboration with colleagues from India and New Zealand. Another publications will follow in the near future.

As one of the chairs of a research network on tourism and transport issues in Europe (NECTAR), I also study questions related to transportation. In collaboration with a Chinese colleague, I recently published two articles focusing on the sustainable mobility of urban tourists in cities. One of them was published in the Journal of Transport Geography, one of the most important international journals on transports.

During this period, I was also invited to contribute for the publication of some books. I was the editor of a book published by MDPI - Sustainability, including 10 studies undertaken by different authors in Asia, Europe and Africa. I was also invited to write single-authored chapters for two books published by Springer-Nature, one of the world leading academic publishers.

This intense production during a very special moment in tourism development allowed me to develop some reflections on the impacts of Covid-19 on teaching and research activities. This was published in the Journal of Yasuda Women's University. Other projects are now being developed or planned and my students will continue to have fresh ideas in classroom for the upcoming years.
