ハワイ大学では、週末の放課後に大学生向けのイベントが開かれています。留学中の国際観光ビジネス学科の学生達も、アメリカの大学生と同じように、たくさんの経験をしながら楽しい学生生活を送っている様子です。学生達からレポートが届きましたので、ご紹介します。

I went to the UH event "SILENT DISCO" after class. Have you ever heard of it? You wear headphones, then you can enjoy the music by yourself. When you take them off, the hall is silent. I felt that it was a strange feeling. And I couldn't believe that it was free!
First, the staff gave me the headphones and the light glasses. And I entered the room. The light was beautiful. There were some free snacks like flutes, donuts and sandwiches. Some people were dancing, others were getting into the rhythm. I could listen to 3 channels and change them if I wanted. Of course, there was western music. But there was also the music I know, TWICE and YMCA. The color of the headphones changed when I changed the channel. So, I could see what music everyone was enjoying. 
I enjoyed the scene where all the people were dancing to the same music. And my most impressive music is UP Town Funk. Because it got me the most excited. When it started, somebody would say "Woohoo!" That got me going. Then everybody connected like a train. In Japan, we don't have that kind of fun with people we don't know. I felt that this is very American culture, it is freedom but I can spend the time feeling a sense of unity. I would like to participate in the SILENT DISCO when it comes to Japan.



ハワイ大学の放課後に行われたサイレントディスコに参加してきました。皆さんはサイレントディスコをご存知ですか？ヘッドホンを付けて、自分の音楽を楽しむことができます。ヘッドホンを外すと会場は静かになります。不思議な感覚でした。これに無料で参加できることは、信じられませんでした。
まず、スタッフからヘッドホンとライトグラスを渡され、部屋に入りました。光が綺麗でした。フルーツ、ドーナツ、サンドイッチなど無料の軽食もありました。踊っている人もいれば、リズムにのっている人もいました。３つのチャンネルを聞くことができ、好きなように変えることができます。もちろん洋楽が多いですが、TWICEやYMCAといった私も知っている曲もありました。ヘッドホンはチャンネルを変えるごとに光る色が変わります。だから、みんながどの音楽で楽しんでいるかがわかります。
みんなが同じ音楽で踊っているシーンは楽しかったです。そして、私が一番印象に来取っている音楽は「UP Town Funk」です。曲が始まると、誰かが"Woohoo!"と言い、それで盛り上がりました。そうすると、みんなが貨物列車のようにつながっていきました。日本では、初対面の人とそういう楽しみ方をすることはないですよね。自由だけれど一体感を感じられるというのは、アメリカの文化だなと感じました。日本でもサイレントディスコがあればぜひ参加したいです！
