Homestay in Hawaii
2年2組 S. H

It has been a month since I came to Hawaii and I have become closer to my host family than at first. My host mother is Japanese, so she spoke to me in Japanese at first, but I asked her to speak to me in English to improve my English. But if I don't understand anything, she explains it to me in Japanese, and she even teaches me how to use it. My host father is a very outdoorsy person with many connections, and he often takes me to home parties. The houses where the parties are held are all very large and many people gather, so I have a lot of opportunities to speak English. The scale of home parties in Hawaii is incomparably larger than those in Japan, and the invited guests bring their own food, so there is always a lot of food and desserts when I go here. Also, every Sunday, I have dinner with my host family, my grandfather, and my father's sister's family at my grandfather's house. He is a good father who values his family time. I have a 10-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl at home, so every day is lively. When I was in Japan, I never had a chance to talk with small children, so this is very refreshing for me. They are still very young and fight over small things every day, but I find it very cute. They happily tell me what happened each day, sing me songs, and tell me about what they recently learned. We also watch movies together. My family members all like the show "America's Got Talent," and after dinner we all watch it together. We often learn new vocabulary when we discuss our impressions of the show, so I really like the time we spend together watching TV after dinner. Although we have only been together for about a month, I am truly happy to have been able to come to this house.
