During the first two weeks of classes at the University of Hawaii, we had many extracurricular activities called field trips. On these field trips, we went to museums and aquariums to learn about Hawaiian culture, society, and particular characteristics. We also walked around to directly experience the nature and atmosphere of the city. Among the many field trips, the day we climbed Diamond Head was the most memorable experience. My group climbed Diamond Head on the first field trip day. I had heard that it was a light climb, so I thought we would drive to the halfway point and climb the last bit on our own, but we had to do everything on our own. Sandy, who was leading the group, seemed to be used to the climb and was moving ahead of us. We were able to keep up with each other by matching our pace so that we would not get separated. When we felt that there was a little space between us, we would take a break and wait for the person behind us to come up. When my pace slowed and I became separated from the group in front of me and tried to go in the wrong direction at a fork, a student (who I didn't really know and had never had the chance to speak before in Japan) noticed and said to me, "This way!". Thanks to her, the people who were walking behind me did not get separated. This was the most memorable part of the Diamond Head Hike. It was a good start for us to look out for each other and do our best together in a foreign land.

Three weeks have passed since we arrived in Hawaii. I'm used to living here. My host family took me to Ala Moana beach on the first day. The first time I saw the sky in Hawaii, it was vast, and the sunset was quite fantastic. Hawaii values its relationship to nature, and the people are kind. I have a very fulfilling life.
When classes started, it was hard for me to get up very early in the morning, and I made a lot of mistakes getting on the bus to the university, but I'm used to it now. Classes at HELP (University of Hawaii) include field trips. We visited various places in Oahu. My favorite place is Diamond Head. It is an active volcano and is characterized by a hollow in its center. We can climb it. Diamond Head is a very famous place and many people visit it. We climbed from the hollow to the top of the mountain. It was hard for me to climb it, but I felt a sense of accomplishment when I did it. The top of the mountain is so beautiful, and there are views of the sea and the islands. We can also see breathtaking scenery while descending the mountain. After the climb, I went into the ocean at Waikiki Beach. It was the perfect day to enjoy both the mountains and the sea.
I also like the Bishop Museum. We can learn about Hawaiian history and culture here. It was also used as a filming location for "50 First Kisses". It offers a view just like in the movie, with an atmosphere not found in Japan. Models and paintings of sea creatures are also exhibited. The most impressive thing was the model of the whale. It was a suspended exhibit, and it was a masterpiece!
There are still many incredible places in Hawaii for me to explore. I would like to visit them when I have time. I will do my best every day in Hawaii because my studies will start in earnest!
