UH Manoa Career Fair
Miho Aikawa
Today, we participated in Career Fair as International Business class. There were many kinds of companies. For example, ABC Stores, Hawaii HIS Corporation, Honolulu Cookie Company, Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki, Gold Club and so on.
We had to ask questions at four companies. I think that Hawaii HIS Corporation is the most interesting to me among four companies I visited. I have two reasons to say that; First, this is the company I learned at university and there is a guest relation coordinator to suggest a plan to Japanese customers. We have to study general knowledge about tourism and Hawaiian sifht seeing spots if we work there. Second, this company has a training for new employees before joining a company workforce. It's about using a computer and how to manage personal information data.
When we asked her, she said "What do you know about hospitality?" We said only "I think about customer!" and "smile!" She said "smile is very important, but speed is more important because we mustn't keep customers waiting." I will remember it. I had a good time.

Untitled (Life in Hawaii)
Nanae Kurisu
Now, Three weeks of studying abroad passed. I'm not good at English and I was anxious to live in Hawaii very much. I got often depressed when our communication did not go well. However, Host mother was a very kind person, which made it possible for me to speak English every day. I gradually became accustomed to Hawaiian life. Initially I could not hide my embarrassment due to the different culture, but now it has become my commonplace. At this moment, I still cannot convey what I want to tell or reply soon in conversation. I use a translation application which is indispensable to me even if Jian sensei says NO! Anyway, local people take care of other people, which is different from Japan. Japanese people are too concerned about the other people`s eyes. It must be embarrassing to act differently. In Hawaii, they often think women and old people first when getting on and off a bus. At a shop, shop assistants are very nice. Coming to Hawaii, my opinion and vision have been spread out very much. Every day is a new discovery; I do not get tired of everyday life now.

Hawaii's food
Shiori Mukai
More than two weeks have passed since I came to Hawaii. I ate many delicious foods. Among them, I will introduce Hawaii-like foods. First, it's garlic shrimp. I ate it when I went to the North Shore with my host family. North Shore is famous for this garlic shrimp. I ate it for the first time. It was very delicious. There are plenty of garlic shrimp shops nearby, so I'd like to eat garlic shrimp in various shops in Hawaii. .Next, it's shave ice. I ate it after climbing Diamond Head. I was very tired and it was very hot so this shave ice was so delicious, but I think it's too sweet. I like Japanese shaved ice better, but I really want to eat Matsumoto Shave Ice which is famous. I also think it looks cute, that`s why it's so popular with girls. Finally, it's poke which is similar to Japanese seafood bowls. It's strongly seasoned more than Japanese seafood bowls are. I ate Salmon Poke and I enjoyed this food very much because I like raw fish. There are many kinds of delicious foods in Hawaii. While in Hawaii, I'd like to eat lots of delicious foods.
