10週間続いたAETプログラムも12月6日に終了し、約１ヵ月間の冬休みを過ごしました。冬休み初日には日本へ帰るクラスメイトを見送りました。

The 10-week AET program ended on December 6, and I spent about a month on winter break. On the first day of the break, I said goodbye to my classmates who returned to Japan.

冬休みの1週目にはUCDの大学院で教育を教えているNancy Tueng教授にお会いする機会をいただきました。私はローマ字学習と英語読み書きの接続について研究しているため、Nancy教授に私の研究について共有したり、アメリカの読み書き教育について伺ったりして、とても有意義な時間でした。

During the first week of winter break, I had the chance to meet Professor Nancy Tueng, who teaches education at the graduate school of UC Davis. Since my research focuses on the connection between romaji learning and English reading and writing, I talked with her about my research and learned about literacy education in the United States. It was a really meaningful and valuable experience for me.

冬休みに入ってからは、卒業論文の完成に向けて熱心に取り組んでいました。息抜きとしてロサンゼルス、ラスベガスそしてニューヨークへ旅行に行きました。写真や動画で見たことある有名な景色が目の前に広がっていることに感動しました。特にタイムズスクエアでの年越しは印象的で、気温が0度を下回る中14時間も外で待つ過酷な体験をしましたが、カウントダウンは感動し、忘れられない体験になりました。また留学が始まった当初は学部も学年もみんなと違い、友達はいませんでしたが、留学を通して旅行する仲間も作れたことを嬉しく思います。
1月7日からはCCPプログラムが始まっています。留学期間も残すところ3週間切っていて寂しい気持ちはありますが、悔いのないように残りの期間も楽しんでいきたいと思います。(桑原可奈, Davis)

During winter break, I worked hard on my graduation thesis. At the same time, I also took some trips to refresh myself, visiting Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and New York. I was excited and moved to see famous places that I had only seen in photos and videos before. Spending New Year's Eve in Times Square was especially unforgettable. Waiting outside for 14 hours in freezing temperatures was tough, but the countdown was amazing and made the whole experience worth it. When I first started studying abroad, I didn't have any friends because I was in a different department and year from the others. However, through this experience, I was able to make friends to travel with, which made me really happy.
The CCP program started on January 7. With less than three weeks left in my study abroad, I feel a little sad, but I want to enjoy the rest of my time here as much as possible and make the most of it.
