About UH Manoa & Classes
Nozomi Nakata

At the first day of the program here at UH Manoa, I was surprised that its campus was so big that I often get lost even now. I was also surprised that Starbucks and Subway are on campus and we can buy Japanese tea at the cafeteria. Also, the bookstore is very useful because it sells many things. For example, stationery, drinks, and clothes. But, the bookstore is a little far from the HELP office. It takes about 15 minutes go to the bookstore from HELP.
We have classes at HELP and study English with other country students. In my class, we study with students from Korea and Saudi Arabia. We are learning many things, such as Listening & Speaking, Writing, and American Culture. In Listening & Speaking class, we often talk with a partner and do the presentation. I am getting the confidence of speaking in front of many people. And in Writing class, we learn grammar and how to write an essay. Writing essay is difficult, but the teacher teaches us kindly. In American Culture class, we learn about American values. This class is a good opportunity to speak positively. Since I am shy, so I would like to become a person who can answer questions positively. I like American Culture class because I can know deeply about the USA. It is important to understand cultures of other countries. Also, I can learn about the culture of Korea and Saudi Arabia through the class. Thanks to this class, I am spending the valuable time. We help each other and work hard. We have so many assignments every day, but I realize those many assignments help me to develop a power of concentration.
