2025.02.03
Student A: I had a meaningful time at the Wafu-do today. It was very interesting to learn about the history of Ueda-Soko school because Ueda Soko was a samurai and some manners are different from the other tea ceremony schools. I was so glad that I could sit on the space where Mrs. Biden was seated at the G7 Summit. Green tea and wagashi were very delicious!
Student B: I know only a bit about the Ueda Soko Tea Ceremony School, therefore I learned a lot in this session. I understand that it is very important to visit, experience, listen, and learn actually. I believe that I can convey it to the world with confidence if I learn about Japanese culture more myself,
Student C: Yesterday, I had a special experience at Wafu-do. I didn't expect that I could use the room that G7 leaders' partners. I've never had a traditional Japanese sweet, but it was so good. If I had not taken your class, I would haven't touched the beautiful Japanese culture. I do recommend this experience to high school students who don't have the opportunity to feel Japanese culture. I'd like to introduce the tea ceremony to University of Hawaii students and Hawaiian people in Hawaii.
Student D: The tea ceremony was a great experience for me! I never had a "real" Matcha before and Japanese sweets before. (I put quotation marks on the word real since the Matcha usually sold at some stores has lots of sugar to make it easier to drink so it's a bit far from what real Matcha taste like). I was able to learn the history of the Wafu-do and had a great time with the structure inside and how each small detail has a deep meaning. Thanks to this opportunity you gave me, I'm planning to join the茶道 circle/ club in the first semester of my second year hear at DITB. I would love to tell and share my knowledge of 茶道 to the people of Hawaii.
Student E: I experienced the tea ceremony for the first time and learned a lot. Before entering the tea ceremony room, we were first taught to calm our minds in the walled space, which made me realize that it is important not to think about unnecessary things just for the time of the tea ceremony. I also learned that the size of the stones and the placement of the trees in the garden were well thought out so that one cannot see all the way to the back of the garden. Even though I live in Japan, I don't have unexpected opportunities to experience the tea ceremony, so I wanted to cherish these opportunities
Student F: Thank you for inviting me to the tea ceremony session this time. It was my first experience, so it was very fresh and I learned a lot as well as Japanese cultural matters in your class.
