We had a six-lesson "Peace Learning" course with Grade 6 recently, which ended in a special visit by a guest teacher. During the course, we thought about how Hiroshima is viewed at from a foreign perspective, what we want to convey about Hiroshima to the world, and how to create peace within ourselves and in the world. Although students do peace learning with their Japanese teachers, this course was special in that students could think about Hiroshima and peace on a global perspective by hearing stories and interacting with the foreigners. During the special guest visit class, Mr. Klein's impactful message for creating peace in the world was to start within yourself: "Peace Begins With a Smile". Later in the class, he led a meditation session to calm our minds. To finish the class, we sang "Imagine" by John Lennon, which carries a message of unity and peace.

6年生は平和学習をよりグローバルな視点から行う６レッスンのコースを終えました。最後の日はゲストのRon Klein先生をお招きして、広島の子どもとして他県や外国の人に何を伝えられるかを一緒に考えました。平和や戦争の歴史についての質問にも答えていただき、「広島はこういう見方をされているのだな」と初めて知ったこともありました。「平和は人に笑顔を向けることから始まる」という大事なメッセージもいただきました。「イマジン」という歌の歌詞の意味を学習してきたので最後にそれをRon Klein先生にも聞いていただきました。
