On March 21st, 26 Grade 4 and 5 students set off on a 12-day trip to Australia as part of our "Global Jinzai Project". After a long flight and many transfers, we made it to the Barossa Valley in South Australia where Yasuda's sister school, Redeemer Lutheran School, is located. Students were nervous but excited to meet their host families, where they each stayed for the duration of the trip.
After a refreshing day off with host families, students came to school on Monday for a full day of exchange activities with Redeemer students. Students spent five days at school participating in many different kinds of classes, with many opportunities to do activities together with new Australian friends. Some activities include participation in sports day, teaching Redeemer students origami, building blocks together, and cooking and tasting Australian sweets.
After a long week at school, students spent the weekend with their host families doing various activities such as visiting Adelaide, the beach, and the zoo. The following Monday we gathered together again at school and said farewell to our host families as we made our way to Sydney. We spent a packed day in Sydney visiting all of the main sights and taking many fun pictures.
Students flew back to Japan with a mix of excitement and sadness. They were happy to eat Japanese food and see their families again, but many also sad they wish they could stay in Australia longer with their host family. It was a wonderful experience for everyone.
3月21日、26名の4年生と5年生の児童たちが、「グローバル人材育成プロジェクト」の一環としてオーストラリアに12日間の「海外学習」に出発しました。長時間のフライトと何度もの乗り継ぎを経て、南オーストラリア州アデレード郊外のバロッサ・バレーに到着しました。そこには安田小学校の姉妹校であるRedeemer Lutheran小学校があります。児童たちは緊張しながらも、これからお世話になるホストファミリーと会うことにワクワクしていました。
ホストファミリーとのリフレッシュの1日を過ごした後、月曜日には学校に登校し、Redeemer小学校の児童たちとの交流活動が本格的に始まりました。生徒たちは5日間、さまざまな授業に参加し、オーストラリアの友達と一緒にたくさんのアクティビティを体験しました。運動会への参加、折り紙を教える活動、ブロックを使った工作、オーストラリアのスイーツを一緒に作って味わうなど、多彩な活動が行われました。
学校での忙しい1週間が終わると、生徒たちはそれぞれのホストファミリーと週末を過ごしました。アデレードの市内観光、ビーチ、動物園など、様々な場所を訪れました。翌月曜日には再び学校に集まり、ホストファミリーとお別れをしてシドニーへ向かいました。シドニーでは、有名な観光スポットを巡り、思い出の写真をたくさん撮りました。
日本への帰路では、生徒たちはうれしさと寂しさが入り混じった気持ちを抱いていました。日本食を食べたり家族と再会したりする喜びがある一方で、もっと長くホストファミリーと一緒に過ごしたいと感じた生徒も多くいました。全員にとって、かけがえのない素晴らしい体験となりました。
