6年生は平和学習の一環として英語の授業でも「世界から見たヒロシマ」という視点をもって学習を深めています。今回は元女学院大学教授のロン・クライン先生をお招きして、平和都市としての広島の役割について教えていただきました。

児童たちは、事前学習として安田小の英語科教員が広島に来る前と来た後の広島に対する印象・考え方や、教員が体験した平和に関する話を聞きました。また、ジョン・レノンの「イマジン」を練習し、ゲストのクライン先生への質問も考えました。

当日、クライン先生は広島の持つ７つの面について興味深い話をしてくださいました。生徒たちは多くの質問をし、平和に対する自分たちの思いを共有しました。最後に、6年生による感動的な「イマジン」の合唱でイベントは締めくくられました。

Peace Learning with Mr. Ron Klein

Former Jogakuin professor, Ron Klein, came to Yasuda to talk to grade 6's about Hiroshima as a world-famous city of peace.

The students spent 2 weeks preparing for his visit. They listened to their foreign teachers' views of Hiroshima before and after coming here, and some of their experiences with peace. They also practiced singing the song "Imagine" by John Lennon, and wrote questions to ask Mr. Klein.

On the day of the Peace Learning lesson, Mr. Klein gave an interesting talk about 7 facets of Hiroshima, including Hiroshima as a City of Peace, and the Lessons of Hiroshima. He also led the students in a short meditation. Students asked him many questions and shared their views on peace. The event finished with a moving performance of "Imagine" by the Grade 6's.
