Grade 4 students have spent the last few English lessons thinking about how English is important in their lives now and in the future. We also talked about what to do "in a pinch" when abroad; ways to communicate with gestures, drawings and simple English.

In today's class, they heard presentations from 3 Japanese teachers about how English has been important in their lives. In the second session, the students then got a chance to roleplay being "in a pinch". They had to get information from foreigners, including 3 visiting high school students from New Zealand, using only English! It was a fun and interesting day and hopefully renewed student's enthusiasm for studying and speaking English.

４年生は英語の特別授業を受けました。英語そのものではなく、「私にとって英語とは何？将来これがどう使えるの？」というビジョンを持つための授業です。 英語教員ではない３人のゲストティーチャーが、英語を使って仕事やボランティアをしてきた経験を話してくださいました。また、その後は"English in a Pinch" という授業をしました。正しい文ではなくてもどうにか知っている単語で通じさせようとがんばるシチュエーションをつくり、児童はそれに取り組みました。
