　　　These are the four themes of Global English Camp, a three-day experience for Grade 5 students at Yasuda. Students begin preparing for the camp about one month before going by learning about foreign culture and customs. We use both kusunoki class and English class to student the themes of the camp and prepare making a short movie about cultural differences. The movie is filmed and edited at the camp facility and we viewed them together before coming back to Yasuda.

　　　In addition, we had a variety of cultural workshops where students could experience something about a foreign culture. Students could choose two from four workshops: 1) Make beadwork from South Africa 2) Make a mask from Mexico 3) Learn how to say your name in Chinese 4) Learn how to write your name in Hangeul.

　　　We also played American sports and ate some American sweets to add to the enjoyment. This year's students were the best we have seen yet in using the English they know in a real and active way. Teachers were impressed with their awareness and effort.

　上の4つの目標は、安田小の宿泊学習の芯となる３つに、「異文化を理解し受け入れる」が加わったものです。Global English Camp の前段階で多くの時間をかけて、外国と日本の習慣の違いなどを学習しました。そしてそれはGECでのムービーメイキングの脚本の元になりました。最後の日には、協力して作ったムービーを鑑賞しました。それとは別に４つの国に焦点を当てたカルチャーワークショップも行いました。（南アフリカのビーズ細工、メキシコのマスク作り、自分の名前の漢字を中国語読みする、自分の名前をハングルで書くなど）アメリカのスナック作りもしました。今年の５年生はできるかぎり英語を使おうとする意識が高く、目を見張るものがありました。これからも英語をたくさん使い、異文化を受け入れる態度を持ち続けていきたいものですね。
