Grade 5 Australian Friends
September 25th, 2019
Every year, Grade 5 students have the chance to make friends with Australian students at our sister school, Redeemer Elementary School. They are paired together with one Australian student. During a special “Skype” (video chat) class, they introduce themselves and say “Hi!” to their Redeemer friend. Later, Yasuda students receive a letter written in Japanese by their partner, and then we write a letter back in English. Students love exchanging letters with their Australian friends. Afterwards we do Skype one more time. Each side asks and answers questions about each other’s’ school and country. We got many interesting questions this year, such as: “Who are the popular teachers at your school?”, “Do you go fishing in Japan?”, and “Do you have sumo in Hiroshima?”. Redeemer answered our questions, too, such as “What are Australia’s good points?” “What sports are popular in Australia?”, and “What do you do during playtime at school?”.
