Maki Hadama

I'm searching why Hawaii has so many Japanese descents in USA. I just searched only in Internet and books, but I found the tour of "Okage sama de" meaning "Thanks to you" at Japanese cultural center of Hawaii near OUR University of Hawaii at Manoa. I will go to the center with my friends and learn about the history of American Japanese descents. They are already fourth generation. I'll tell you some of their history; In Meiji era (1868 afterword), many Japanese came to Hawaii to work at sugar plantation to get more money with huge dream. However, the environment in Hawaii was bad and they couldn't get much money. However, they worked hard and gave good education to their own children.
I was so amazed because most of them have come from Hiroshima, which makes the biggest population in Hawaiian Japanese society including several Yasuda Women's University graduates here in Hawaii. I would like to know more about its history, talk with Hawaiian Ni-sei or San-sei, and visit many Hawaiian historical places. It makes me study harder at University of Hawaii. I've enjoyed coming to UH and learning every day in Hawaii!!
