The History of Yasuda Women’s University, College and Graduate School

1915
Yasuda Educational Foundation (Formerly known as Hiroshima Practical Girls’ School) was founded by Ryo Yasuda.
1955
Yasuda Women’s College, Department of Early Childhood Education was established.
1961
Yasuda Women’s College expanded to include the Department of Home Economics.
1966
Yasuda Women’s University, Faculty of Letters was established. The faculty was composed of the Department of Department of Japanese Language and Literature (The department is now known as the Department of Japanese Language and Literature) and the Department of English and American Literature.
1975
The Faculty of Letters expanded to include the Department of Primary Education.
1984
The Department of English and American Literature was reorganized and renamed the Department of English and American Language and Literature (The department is now known as Department of English Language and Literature).
1988
Yasuda Women’s College expanded to include the Department of Business.
1991
Yasuda Women’s College, Department of Home Economics was reorganized and renamed (The English name remained the same).
1994
Yasuda Women’s University, Graduate School of Letters was established. M.A. courses were made available through the following departments:
  • Department of Japanese
  • Department of English
  • Department of Education
1996
The Graduate School of Letters expanded to include Ph.D. courses which were made available through the following departments:
  • Department of Japanese
  • Department of English
  • Department of Education
1998
The Faculty of Letters expanded to include the Department of Human Sciences.
2001
The Graduate School of Education expanded its curriculum to include a course in clinical psychology.
2003
Yasuda Women’s University, Faculty of Current Business, Department of Current Business was established.
2004
The Department of Human Sciences was reorganized and renamed the Department of Psychology.

Yasuda Women’s University, Faculty of Human Ecology was established. The faculty was composed of the Department of Lifestyle Design and the Department of Nutritional Sciences.
2006
The Graduate School of Education expanded its curriculum to include a course in education and psychology.
2007
Yasuda Women’s University, Faculty of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacy was established.
2011
Yasuda Women’s University, Faculty of Letters, Department of Calligraphy was established.
2012
Yasuda Women’s University, Faculty of Education, Department of Primary Education was established.
Yasuda Women’s University, Faculty of Psychology, Department of Psychology was established.
2013
Yasuda Women’s University, Graduate School of Human Ecology, Department of Health and Lifestyle Design was established.
Yasuda Women’s University, Graduate School of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacy was established.
2014
Yasuda Women’s University, Faculty of Nursing, Department of Nursing was established.
2015
Yasuda Women’s University, Faculty of Current Business,Department of International Tourism and Business was established.
2016
Yasuda Women’s University, Faculty of Human Ecology,Department of Aesthetic Design and Technology was established.
2018
Yasuda Women’s University, Faculty of Psychology, Department of Social-Psychology was established.
Yasuda Women’s University, Graduate School of Nursing, Department of Nursing was established.
2020
Yasuda Women’s University, Faculty of Current Business, Department of Public Management was established.
