Different National Character
Yoshikawa Misa
I stayed in Hawaii for a week and felt a huge difference between Japanese people and Hawaiians.
When I get on a bus, a driver always says, "Good morning!" with a smile. In Japan bus drivers MAYBE never say that unless I ALWAYS get on a SAME bus driven by a SAME person.
I have some stories; when I was walking to my host family home, a neighbor says to me, "Hi, How are you?" When I went to Waikiki aquarium in a field trip on March 6th, a lady passing by spoke to me, "Hi, it's too hot." In other case, my friend and I ran to a bus stop to catch a bus, but the bus departed in front of us, we couldn't get on. Local people looking at us said a joke, "Hmm... the bus is bad." They talked to me with even they don`t know me at all. I am a stranger here with my unfamiliar appearance. Such things never happen in Japan. These character differences such as kindness and friendliness are unique to Hawaii where many different home country people live in together. I could find it very good just after staying in Hawaii for a week.
I can't conclude my opinion now but I really would like to be a good speaker of English and talk to many people more in English to find out the conclusion. Thanks to the warmth of Hawaiian people, I think more and more about how important friendly attitude is than I did in Japan before coming to this paradise, Hawaii.

Tourism and Culture class
Hina ohashi
We have some classes in UH, and I report about the Tourism and Culture class.
We learn a lot of things: what is culture shock? the 5 stage of culture shock, how to deal with culture shock, and the different cultures. We have been working on a group project at the recent classes. We plan a two-day-one-night trip as a group project. At first we pick a place where everybody gets interest and a group budget is reasonable, and choose a place to stay overnight. We discuss what aspect we care most, the price of the room, the view from the hotel room, the service and so on. The things we study at UH are difficult but very practical, which we do at Department of International Tourism and Business at Yasuda Women`s University and Honolulu in Hawaii.
